You can get a free copy of your credit report every year. This means you can receive a copy of each of the three companies that write their credit reports.

In order to obtain your credit report, you must provide your name, address, Social Security number, and date of birth. If you’ve moved within the last two years, you should include your previous address. To protect the security of your personal information, you may be asked a series of questions that only you would know, like your monthly mortgage payment.

The law says that you can get your free credit reports :

Under federal law, the three major credit reporting agencies – Equifax, Experian and TransUnion – are each required to provide consumers with one free copy of their credit report each year.

Getting your free credit report does not hurt your credit rating – nor does getting your credit score using Credit.com’s Credit Report Card.

How to get your free annual credit report

AnnualCreditReport.com, is the only official site that allows consumers to request free credit information files, commonly called a credit report, once every 12 months from each of the companies consumers around the country credit reporting bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.

Let’s start!

In your Internet browser, go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com. Upon arrival, make sure your connection to the website ensures secure browsing clicking the Verisign icon in the lower right.

Once you verify the connection is secure, select your state and click get report.

Fill the form with your personal data. Verify information before continuing, and then click Continue.

Select the credit reporting company that you wish to request a report from. We recommend you order a report from all 3 companies. Click Next when you are ready to continue.

An article explaining that you can return to the original web page by clicking the button on the blue circle message appears. Click Next to continue.

You will be directed to your first report, in this case Experian. The company will  ask you to verify your personal information to safeguard your report. Continue the process until you are presented with your report. Make sure to keep a copy of any report on your computer or print it for your records.

Note: Throughout the process, you may be presented with the opportunity to view your credit score or FICO score. This is not part of the free annual credit report process and additional fees are required to access these scores. Remember, you do not need to apply for qualification in order to see your credit report.

When you have seen the Experian report, click AnnualCreditReport.com Back to the top navigation bar to continue your application credit report for Equifax and TransUnion.

Equifax asks to verify your personal information to safeguard their information. Continue with the process until you are presented with your report. Make sure to keep a copy of any report on your computer or print it for your records.

When you have seen the report from Equifax, click Back to AnnualCreditReport.com the top navigation bar to continue your application credit report TransUnion report.

TransUnion asked to verify your personal information to safeguard their informe.Continuar with the process until you are presented with your report. Make sure to keep a copy of any report on your computer or print it for your records.

When you have seen the report from TransUnion, who have completed the process of obtaining your free annual credit report. It is recommended that you close your Internet browser at this time.
